CEPF RAS participates in a kick-off conference of the POLYFORES project

 

CEPF RAS is a member of the consortium of an international project Decision Making Support for Forest Ecosystem Services in Europe – Value Assessment, Synergy Effects and Trade-offs – POLYFORES, carried out by 8 organizations from 7 European countries:

  • Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)
  • Luleå Technical University (LTU)
  • Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)
  • Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg (ALU-FR)
  • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU – InFER)
  • Centre of Technologic Forestal de Catalunya (CTFC)
  • Centre for Forest Ecology and Productivity RAS
  • Institute of Experimental Botany at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (IEB NASB)

 

A kick-off conference in the scope of POLYFORES projects research implementation, took place on 8-9 of November 2017 in Uppsala (Sweden). CEPF RAS director Natalya Lukina, as well as senior researchers Darya Tebenkova and Vladimir Shanin from CEPF RAS laboratory of structural and functional organization and resilience of forest ecosystems.

During the conference the following conceptual issues were discussed:

  • The meaning of forest ecosystem services (FES)
  • The assessment of FES synergy and compromises, that are to be realized in the context of the project.
  • The limitations of the project realization

Each work package (WP) leader introduced their presentations, which in turn included following issues:

  • WP’s goals and objectives
  • Methods used
  • Working plan
  • Potential methodical or theoretical problems to be solved for WP’s goals realization
  • Bringing in additional researchers for WP’s goals achievement
  • Liaisons with other WPs
  • Various WPs intercoordination
  • And other

The project participants also discussed further meetings draft for 2018 and 2019 years.
