CEPF RAS in cooperation with WWF-Russia conducted research on scientifically based restoration of close to natural forest communities in the mixed coniferous broad-leaved forest zone. The project was carried out by Dr. V. Korotkov and DSc, Prof. O. Smirnova.

The work resulted in the concept of the forest restoration or mixed coniferous broad-leaved forest zone. It is based on actual knowledge on structure and dynamics of intact forests with uneven-aged structure and high species diversity of the tree synusia. The concept’s main objective is a formation of uneven-aged polydominant forest ecosystems, close to natural forest communities, which are more resilient to fungi diseases and insects outbreaks.
