Annotation: A specialized database on the characteristics of Russian forest litter has been compiled (about 900 descriptions). There’s a set of typical average values ​​of carbon stocks of forest litter in forest stands, according to prevailing tree species with zonal-provincial differentiation. Using state forest fund information of January 1, 2003, we calculated carbon stocks of litter on forest-covered lands of RF regions, federal districts and whole Russia. The results can be used to calculate the total carbon budget in the country’s forests.
