Inexhaustibility of forest use

 

The RAS Research Board on Forests and WWF Russia held academic dispute “Inexhaustibility of forest use” on March 24, 2016.

 

Debate program

 

The debate aim was to discuss widely the approaches to inexhaustible and permanent forest management considering economic interest and fulfilling all forest ecosystem functions as providing (timber, fiber, etc.) as ecological (producing organic matter, environment protection, climate regulation, etc.), and providing Russian governmental authorities with unbiased information for rational and timely decision making.

 

The following questions were discussed:

  • the nessesity for revising current approaches to sustainable forest management;
  • considering economic factors when setting forest resources use rates;
  • mid-term and long-term sustainable forest management planning approaches, forest management modeling.

Representatives of scientific and non-governmental organizations, governmental authorities and local administrations, etc. participated in the discussion.
