The RAS Research Board on Forests held scientific debate “Forest biotechnology as an element of bioindustry of Russia” on October 27, 2016 in the framework of II all-Russia scientific conference with international participation «Scientific basis for sustainable forest management».

The debate aim was to discuss and analyze challenges for biotechnology development in Russia and worldwide.

The directions for forest biotechnology developent according to BIO-2020 program were discussed:

• Biotechnologies for stands management;
• Biotechnologies for forest genetic resources protection and reproduction;
• Creation of biotechnological forms of trees with specified features;
• Biological agents of forest protection.
